Sheffield University Singers' Society has invited Key Stage 2 classes from several schools to take part in our annual "Opera-in-a-Day" workshop, based on Purcell’s 'Dido and Aeneas’. This workshop is run by our society for schools free of charge, as part of our society Volunteering & Outreach programme.
The workshop provides a wonderful opportunity for the children to be exposed to a musical genre that they may otherwise miss out on. Using games and activities the children will learn about the genre of opera and the story of ‘Dido and Aeneas', as well as basic singing techniques, as we teach them five songs from the opera. The day is geared towards an abridged performance of the opera for an invited audience of pupils, the parents of the children performing, and the university community!
The workshop will take place on Friday 28th March 2014, from 9.15am to 2.45pm, including a morning and lunchtime break and the performance towards the end.
SingSoc members can sign up to volunteer for the workshop on the Members Event Sign-Up page.
