SingSoc are very active volunteers, and we put on and participate in events both at the University of Sheffield and throughout the city in the community. We have our very own group of volunteers that are dedicated to running the best SingSoc events possible! More information about the SingSoc Tutti Volunteering Project can be found here.
Our members and musical directors work together to organise successful workshops for local schools. Workshops that we have run in the past have included:
"Sing and Sign" Day:
Our most recent workshop was our "Sing and Sign" day at a primary school in Sheffield. The workshop aimed to teach 60 year 4-5's how vocal communication, body language and facial expression combine in everyday life as well as performance. We worked closely to select songs with lyrics translatable into simple, child-friendly Sing Language, and of appropriate speed for signing. We created original games, such as ‘Sign-ese Whispers’, fusing both societies’ skills. Children and volunteers responded incredibly positively to the day and we will be developing this event further in future! Children commented that the day ‘was a real inspiration for sign language’, their favourite parts included learning harmony, ‘epic games’ and ‘meeting the volunteers’.
Fundraising, Charity and Entertainment Events
